Nifty at 60!

To Classmates and Friends,

As you know, the plans for our Diamond Jubilee are in place. It’s now time to make your plans firm, and so we ask that you to send us the funds for the reunion activities. The cost is $90 per person, and we ask that you send us a check in the correct amount, and made out to James A. Salerno Class of 57, which is our reunion checking account. Please send the funds in the next few weeks, preferably by August 15. See details below.

Here is a summary of the 60th Reunion events. We will start the day, Sunday, October 15, 2 PM, with a classic comedy show by the Centenary Stage Company, a professional group associated with Centenary University in Hackettstown. Following the show we will have a cocktail reception and a sit down dinner. The reunion activities are at one location, and all on one level, in Centenary’s modern event center. In keeping with classmates’ wishes, the reception and dinner arrangements will provide lots of time for conversation and socializing. Here’s the schedule.

  • Matinee show at 2 PM at Centenary’s Lackland Performing Arts Center - 715 Grand Ave, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 (GPS address). The parking lot is immediately in front of the main entrance to the theatre complex. We have reserved a block of seats at the orchestra level. This is a modern theatre with comfortable seats.
o  Learned Ladies, a comedy by Moliere adapted by Feyda Thomas.
  • Reception/cocktails at ~4 PM, immediately following the show, in the galleria just outside the theatre itself. Cheese and crackers and light snacks will be offered. We will have an open bar with wine, beer, mixed drinks and soft drinks.
  • Dinner at ~6 PM in the President’s Circle Room, which is off the galleria. This is a sit down dinner, and two choices of entrees will be offered. We will also serve wine and other drinks. And, then it’s closing time!

Please do some campaigning with your classmates as it would be great to get a big turnout. If anyone needs an email address or phone number, just let me know. If any of you are Facebook or Twitter folks, possibly announcing the event would help encourage attendance.

Our class website http://www.lhsclassof57.org has been paid up for the remainder of the year. The costs for this have been paid from a small cache of leftover funds from previous reunions. This is coming to an end, and so the website will deactivate at the end of this year.

About 40 people have acknowledged attendance at the event, and we’re hoping for many more. Please send in the funds as confirmation of your attendance I will soon post an attendee list on the website. Also, we will follow up with some recommendations on nearby hotels for guests arriving from afar.

To Classmates and Friends,

The plans for our 60th LHS Reunion are in place.  We will start the day, Sunday, October 15, 2 PM, with a classic comedy show by the Centenary Stage Company, a professional group associated with Centenary University in Hackettstown.  Following the show we organized a cocktail reception and a sit down dinner.  The reunion activities are at one location, and all on one level, in Centenary’s modern event center.   In keeping with classmates’ wishes, the reception and dinner arrangements will provide lots of time for conversation and socializing.  Here’s the plan.

    • Learned Ladies, a comedy by Moliere adapted by Feyda Thomas. Description: Philamente and her daughter Armande are rabid supporters of the new intellectual movement among women. In her overzealous zeal, Philamente plays marriage matchmaker for her sweet younger daughter Henrietta. Add to this a meek husband, a loony if lovable sister, a practical brother-in-law and a couple of mouthy servants and you have the makings of a sprightly afternoon of theater!
  • Reception/cocktails at ~4 PM, immediately following the show, in the galleria just outside the theatre.
And, then it’s closing time.

The “all in” cost will be $90 per person, perhaps less, and that’s including show, reception, drinks, and dinner.  The cost is somewhat variable depending on how many guests we have.  So….. we need to get a fairly accurate headcount in the next 5-6 weeks.

While it would be nice to see the website archived somehow, I’m not sure how this can be accomplished, nor do I think that LHS or the library would be interested.  One thought was to try to download the website content to a CD for distribution to classmates, but the file sizes are very large, and this is not practical.  Perhaps some of you have ideas how this should be handled.  For those interested in copying portions of the website, including photos, stories, etc., it’s probably a good time to get started.

Meanwhile, about 40 people have acknowledged attendance at the event, and we’re hoping for many more.  Once again, please let me know you’ll be attending, and if you're bringing a guest/spouse, as we need to zero in on an accurate figure.  I will soon post an attendee list on the website.  Also, we will check out some local hotels for guests arriving from afar, and offer recommendations.
